On Sunday, 5 July, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development signed a new agreement in Riyadh with Kenya’s Ministry of Labour and Social Protection on the recruitment of domestic workers. The Ministry was represented by His Excellency Dr Abdullah bin Nasser Abuthnain, Vice Minister of Human Resources and Social Development for Labour, while the Kenyan Ministry was represented by His Excellency Dr Alfred Nganga Mutua, Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection.
The signing ceremony was hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Riyadh and attended by His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and His Excellency Dr Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of Kenya. The ceremony took place on the sidelines of the first round of political consultations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Kenya.
The agreement aims to implement all necessary measures to ensure the effective recruitment of domestic workers from the Republic of Kenya to work in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in a lawful manner, protect the rights of both employers and workers, and regulate the contractual relationship between them. It also aims to update the framework for cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Kenya in the field of domestic worker recruitment.
