The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development announced the extension of the grace period granted to correct the status of expatriate workers whose work permits expired more than (12) months ago, as well as workers for whom work permits have not been issued for more than (6) months from the date of joining the establishment, until 31 December 2026. This comes as part of the Ministry’s efforts to enhance compliance with labour regulations, safeguard the rights of the parties to the contractual relationship, and enable establishments and workers to complete statutory procedures within the specified grace period.
The Ministry explained that the extension of the grace period was introduced to provide establishments and workers with an additional opportunity to correct their status, particularly in light of the strong response witnessed during the previous period in completing status-correction procedures in accordance with the regulations, which contributed to raising the level of compliance in the Kingdom’s labour market.
The Ministry called on establishment owners and workers to take the initiative to renew or issue work permits before the expiry of the specified grace period, stressing that failure to correct the status within the specified period will result in the application of the prescribed statutory procedures.
