The General Secretariat of the Sector Skills Councils held the second session of the Tourism and Hospitality Sector Skills Council for the term 2026–2027, chaired by Eng. Razan Al Ayed, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Tourism for Tourism Human Capital Development, and attended by Ms. Iman Al Yami, Secretary-General of the Sector Skills Councils, along with 21 members representing both the public and private sectors. Such session reflects the integration of national efforts to develop human capital and enhance the competitiveness of the tourism sector.
The Council reviewed the professional certification initiative, which aims to enhance workforce efficiency and qualify national talent in accordance with global best practices. It also emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration between government entities and the private sector to address skills gaps and empower national talent, thereby contributing to the development of the tourism sector.
The Sector Skills Councils stem from the Labor Market Strategy framework and were established under a Cabinet resolution issued in 2020. They aim to design and activate an interconnected network of councils across key economic sectors that significantly contribute to the Kingdom’s GDP and employment. This is achieved through a flexible and dynamic approach focused on addressing skills gaps by collecting and standardizing sector and occupational skills data, developing them, and collaborating with relevant entities across the ecosystem on potential areas for improvement related to the skills agenda. These councils serve as a key mechanism adopted by various countries to address major challenges in skills development.
