The Labor Award represents one of the prominent strategic initiatives launched by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, serving as a national platform to encourage private sector establishments to achieve excellence and enhance competitiveness in the Saudi labor market. Since its launch, the award has contributed to the adoption of best practices by establishments in the areas of localization, work environment, and skills development, positively impacting the sustainability of the national workforce and improving the quality of work environments.
Since its first edition, the award has witnessed growing participation from private sector establishments. At that time, it was limited to two main categories: the Localization Award and the Excellence in Work Environment Award, honoring 18 establishments that demonstrated outstanding performance in these areas. This marked a starting point for motivating the market to improve work environments and enhance the engagement of qualified national cadres.
In the second edition, the award expanded to three main categories: Localization, Work Environment, and Skills and Training. The Ministry honored 24 establishments that excelled in increasing localization rates, creating attractive work environments, and investing in the development of their human capital.
With increasing engagement and interest, the third edition witnessed a qualitative leap in participation, with over 88,000 competing establishments vying for 27 awards across four main categories. For the first time, the CEO category was added to encourage executive leadership to adopt innovative work practices that contribute to improving performance indicators and enhancing market efficiency.
The 4th edition reflected a more mature and expanded phase, with participation exceeding 190,000 establishments. It included 30 awards across four main categories, with greater focus on the Localization category, which featured field visits by specialized assessors to ensure the highest levels of accuracy and reliability. The Work Environment category encompassed four specialized branches, enhancing occupational health and safety, adapting workplaces for people with disabilities, and providing exemplary worker accommodations. In addition to honoring the best training programs in the skills and training category, and motivating CEOs through a separate category that considers the different types of establishments.
In its 5th edition, launched yesterday, the number of awards increased to 38, distributed across five main categories. The Ministry introduced a new category dedicated to Occupational Safety and Health, comprising the two standards: “Institutional Excellence in Occupational Safety and Health” and “Elite Pioneers and Partners in Occupational Safety and Health”, in addition to the four previous categories. The Ministry’s official spokesperson, Mr. Mohammed Al-Rizqi, called on all private sector establishments to register before 14 November and take advantage of this opportunity to enhance their competitive presence and contribute to the development of the labor market.
The award is part of an integrated system of initiatives and programs led by the Ministry, such as the Supply and Demand Forecasting Unit and the Job Creation Index, which have collectively contributed to increasing the number of Saudi men and women employed in the labor market to approximately 2.4 million, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and the Human Capability Development Program.
Through the launch of the 5th edition of the Labor Award, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development reaffirms its ongoing commitment to empowering the private sector and encouraging its competitiveness, creating safe and attractive work environments, and developing the skills of national cadres, thereby contributing to sustainable development and strengthening the national economy.
